An outbreak
of COVID-19 forced employers and employees to try working hybrid, which proved
effective for many kinds of industries. In the context of a workspace,
hybridity refers to the combination of both physical work arrangements and
remote work systems (Cook et al., 2020). The 9-to-5 office job is quickly
becoming something fading with the rise of hybrid workforce, where employees
can work both on-site and from home or anywhere. This work style offers
employees an improved balance between work and personal life, together with
increased flexibility. Hybrid work effectiveness has greatly improved with the cloud-based
technology and video conferencing.
A hybrid workplace is where employees work in
office or remotely. Organizations can leverage the benefits provided by both approaches.
There are two types of work systems that have demonstrated effectiveness; however,
they are not without their own set of challenges (Teebken & Hess, 2021).
Advantages of remote work include enhanced
productivity, reduced expenses related to office space, and satisfaction among
employees through improved work-life balance. The hybrid arrangement in
the workplace helps ensure that the employee or worker’s productivity is
adequately maximized (Yang et al., 2019).
There are several advantages associated with
in-office employment, including enhanced cooperation, team cohesion, culture
development, and face-to-face mentoring.
However, it also causes new challenges for
Human Resource Management (HRM). Many companies are currently implementing a
process of transformation of their HR practices to align with the necessities
of the future of work. Although existing HRM theories can provide valuable
insights, it is hard to complement them with emerging frameworks to adequately
tackle the unique issues and opportunities that emerge from this new work
style.
Challenges
and Opportunities
The hybrid workforce has some unique challenges and opportunities for HRM. Here are few crucial aspects to consider:
Challenges
- Maintaining Employee Engagement and Company Culture.
- Prioritizing Employee Health and Wellness.
- Navigating Compliance and Data Security.
Opportunities
- Access to a Wider Talent Pool.
- Greater Flexibility and Productivity.
- Significant Cost Savings.

Good article. I believe post pandemic some of the organization move back from hybrid to 100% Office. While hybrid work have direct impact to cost saving on electricity , office space Etc , organizations may also incur additional costs related to technology infrastructure, remote equipment, and cybersecurity measures. Moreover, the long-term impact of hybrid work on costs requires careful analysis and consideration of various factors (Anderson & O'Leary, 2020).
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the complete resumption of office-based work is likely to have an effect on the cost reductions that organisations have attained by implementing hybrid models. Conducting a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis that takes into account the savings in office space and the additional expenses related to technology, equipment, and cybersecurity for a completely remote workforce would be wise.
DeleteThe varied nature of the long-term cost impact of hybrid work should be taken into consideration. According to the research conducted by Anderson and O'Leary (2020), it is imperative to thoroughly evaluate multiple elements.
In addition to financial considerations, it is imperative to take into account employee inclinations towards hybrid work models and the possibility of broadening the employment base through a more remote approach when making decisions.
In the end, the crucial factor is to choose the work model that most effectively facilitates a productive, efficient, and employee-focused work environment.
Agreed, This promotes work-life balance for employees and also enhances productivity and fosters a culture of innovation.

ReplyDeleteHello Dilshad,
DeleteIndeed! Remote working provides equal benefits for both employers and employees. Research indicates that it has the potential to enhance productivity (Bloom et al., 2015), enhance well-being (Bailey & Krieger, 2017), and even have positive effects on the environment (Berrone et al., 2020).

According to Krajcik et al (2023), As of April 2020, around 81% of employees worked in countries where business closure was required due to the COVID-19 outbreak. A rapid transition from office to home through localization flexibility proved to be a necessary solution. However, it appeared to be temporary. Telework in the form of a home office has been used, and we have become more flexible in terms of time and space.
